The Entumoto Experience

When we embarked on organising a safari trip we knew our general destination but other than that we were very much in the unknown. We knew Kenya was famous for its volume of animals but we were wary of the abundance of tourists and the impact that this can have on the wildlife we were there to see.

Having been recommended a couple of camps we finally settled on Entumoto and we are incredibly grateful for having done so. We were based on the top tier of the camp away from the main structure, our tent was both homely whilst encompassing the wilderness that surrounded us. We were led to our tents by some local Maasai’s who keep watch during the evening and generally survey the camp – this gave us a strong sense of both safety and community and it was the latter that really stands out about Entumoto.

The camp is in a huge reserve which is, in itself, its own safari park less the multitude of tourists. We were told how the park was void of any fences and that animals were allowed to pass through the camp as they pleased – from an environmental perspective this was a huge positive but it also meant that, when we saw the wildlife in our camp, there was a sense of surprise and excitement as it was very much the animals choice to be there.

I alluded to the community feel within Entumoto – the head safari guide Isaac made you feel as if you were the first and only residents they had had at the camp and his enthusiasm really rubbed off on us.

We did both day and night safaris within the camp and ticked off almost every animal you could wish to see on an African safari, with the rarest of siting’s of a wild dog in the Entumoto reserve. The staff that cooked our meals were friendly and the meals complimented the amazing view as you eat. Head barman James made us some excellent cocktails to enjoy during some magnificent sunsets.

Along with the driving safari you can go on walking safaris and this was a real highlight – walking through the reserve on foot with just a local Maasai guide to inform you of what mammal, bird or plant you were looking at. In our opinion this was priceless.

All in all Entumoto is the perfect mix of luxury and a piece of the wild and we would not have had our experience any other way. 10/10
